Patricia Curran Sedgley
August 28, 1939 - November 11, 2025
Patricia Curran Sedgley (Patty) passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025 in Richmond. Patty was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is survived by her husband of 43 years Richard Sedgley; three children, Holly Randolph (Key) of Charleston, S.C., Palmer King of Richmond, and Randy King (Kim) of Norfolk; six grandchildren, Ross, Caroline, Annie and Vee Agnew, Cal and Libby King; great-grandson Hank; her sister Edie Taylor of Crozet, Va; and her sister-in-law Penny Sedgley of Richmond. She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Edythe Curran of Cincinnati.
Patty lived a long life of joy and adventure, punctuated by times of great achievement and times of trial. Her greatest joy was her three children, growing up with her frequent guidance to become happy and successful adults. She traveled widely, to Europe, Egypt, Russia, the South Pacific and other locales. After attending the University of Kentucky and University of North Carolina, Patty later earned three college degrees, from Reynolds Community College, and Bachelors and Masters degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 25 plus years, tending to new mothers and babies. She was incredibly compassionate and skilled at that work.
Patty also became a good snow skier in mid-life, enjoying with her husband winter in Colorado. Her greatest relaxation was at the beach, where she spent time many summers.
She was active in St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Tuckahoe Womens Club, and other activities; and she had many friends, some for periods of 50 years or more.
However, Patty also faced a number of challenges during her life, overcoming all with grace to resume a joyous life. Her courage through these trials was an inspiration to all of her family.
Patty's life will be celebrated at Bliley Funeral Home, Central on Augusta Avenue in Richmond on Tuesday November 18th with a visitation at 10 a.m., a service at 11 a.m., and burial at Westhampton Memorial Park after that. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an animal welfare organization of your choosing.
