Paul Bruce Hutchins

Paul Bruce Hutchins, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and founder of Bruce's Super Body Shops, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. To many, he was "Bruce from Bruce's Body Shop," or the guy who "took the top off the building" in the commercial. To his friends, he was Paul. But to his family, he was simply and proudly Pop. Born on February 27, 1948, Paul spent most of his life in Chesterfield, Virginia, before moving to Williamsburg in 2001 to open his third Bruce's Super Body Shop, a business he built from the ground up starting in 1978. The trade was passed down to him by his father, and he made it his life's work, helping countless families and building a legacy of excellence and perseverance, while also teaching his family the business, providing them with life long skills. Paul was larger than life, always the tallest man in the room in spirit, if not in height. He had a way of telling stories that made people laugh, and a calming presence that reminded you, "Is anyone dying? No? Then it can be fixed." He was a force of nature with an unstoppable will, and a heart that carried deep love, even through immense pain. Despite losing his first wife, Cynthia, at just 33, and his daughter, Cindy Lynn, just one year later, Paul was able to build a life full of love and strength. He remarried and found love again with his wife, Judy, blending a family in the most beautiful way, and with her by his side, he was able to carry out his life long dreams and legacy, he was able to continue to live fully and generously, despite the odds being against him. Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Cynthia Hutchins; daughter, Cindy Lynn Hutchins; his parents, Avalon and Edna Hutchins; and his sister, Betty Hutchins. He is survived by his wife, Judy Hutchins; his brother, Richard Hutchins (Juanita); and his children and stepchildren, Michelle Corson (Jonathan), Kelly Glidewell (Gordon), Kelly Jarrell (Jeff), and Kyle Wills (Candy). He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Brandon Tucker (Hannah), Ryan Tucker (Kendra), Tyson Tucker (Bethany), Brooke Fuller (Brandon), Maura Long (Pierce), Chase Loving, Tristan Wills, Kedon Glidewell, Noah Jarrell, Faith Glidewell, and Laci Wills; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Paul was passionate about giving back, supporting many local charities through out the years. He loved traveling especially traveling with family. Though he held pain and grief, Paul stayed strong for everyone around him. Now he can finally rest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VCU Massey Cancer Center.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Blileys-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road. A service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with interment to follow at Dale Memorial Park.
