Paul Rogers Sobert

February 12, 1934 - September 27, 2024

Paul Rogers Sobert was born in Beaumont, Texas on February 12, 1934, and passed away on September 27, 2024, in Richmond, VA. A Celebration of Life will be held at Foxcroft Clubhouse, 15000 Fox Club Parkway, Midlothian, VA 23112 on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.

Paul spent his childhood on farms in East Texas and Labadieville, Louisiana. Determined to attend college, he joined ROTC and graduated from LSU Baton Rouge in 1955 with a major in history and education. He married Marguerite "Margie" Modica in 1955.

Paul served as a U.S. Army First Lieutenant from 1956 to 1958, and in the reserves until 1963. He taught school, then worked in the specialized packaging industry, relocating across the U.S. before settling in Richmond, Virginia in 1974. His work fostered a love for travel, history, and culture.

As a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, he prioritized family, driving children to activities and organizing annual trips. He was known for his kindness, patience, and generosity, and loved his grandchildren's stories. He showed unwavering devotion caring for Margie during her health challenges.

Paul was active in his community, volunteering at Epiphany Catholic Church and on political campaigns. He did extensive genealogy research and shared his findings with the family. His legacy will continue to live through the memories and impact he made on everyone he touched through his kindness and generosity.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Hattie Sobert, brother Andrew, and sister Judith Welch. He is survived by his wife Marguerite "Margie" Sobert, children Suzanne Sobert (Mark Chesak), Paul Sobert (SueAnne), David Sobert, Angela Arrington (Bruce), Mary Patrick (Joseph), nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, you may send donations in his name to The Nature Conservancy, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Heifer International.

Sincere condolences to the family. Paul was a long lost cousin and we reconnected via ancestry. His mother and my great grandmother were sisters. Over the years, we exchanged information, pictures and stories. He was always so nice and helpful, and proud of his grandkids. I will always cherish and miss our conversations. May he rest in peace
