Phyllis Cook Obituary
February 18, 1931 - July 26, 2024
Phyllis G. Cook, 93, of Mechanicsville, VA, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on July 26, 2024. Phyllis was born in Richmond, VA on February 18, 1931. She was one of six children born to Eva Leake. Phyllis was preceded in death by four brothers; one sister; and husband, John Cook, Sr., who was the love of her life. They eloped in 1946 and were married for 67 years before his passing.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Deborah Melton (Bobby); son, Junie Cook (Teresa); two grandchildren, Brad Melton (Erice) and Tiffany Morrison (Jacob), who adored their Nannie. Phyllis is also survived by three great-grandsons, Landon Melton, Brayden Morrison and Hunter Morrison; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Phyllis retired from A.H. Robins after 25 years of service. Prior to that job she worked for Richmond Dairy. At both jobs she made many lasting friendships, including her best friend for 60 years, Connie Christian, who preceded her in death in 2013.
Our lives will be forever changed as Phyllis was a very special person to all of those who knew her.
The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where services will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, August 1. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
