Ralph Lund Obituary

Ralph Arnold Lund, 86, died September 19, 2005, at his home of two months in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born in Watertown, Connecticut, son of Peter Nissen Lund and Mathilda Feldthaus, both Danish immigrants. He graduated from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, with a degree in chemical engineering. He served as intelligence officer with the 384th Bomb Group, U.S. Army Air Force, stationed in England during World War II. Ralph Lund started his career in Connecticut with Calco Chemical Company and Atlas Powder Company. He came to Richmond in 1948 to manage the coating plant at Crawford Manufacturing Company. Subsequently, he worked for Haskell Chemical Company and Prillaman Chemicals Corporation. He retired in 1988. He was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Richmond. After retirement he continued his service to the church, participated in Shepherd's Center and volunteered as an elementary school tutor for Richmond Public Schools in Gilpin Court. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Haynes Lund; three sons, John Peter and his wife, Mary Foote Wingfield, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and their two sons, Benjamin Douthat and Robert Nissen; Stephen Eric and his wife, Barbara Simon, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and their two daughters, Elizabeth Ostrom and Susan Christine; and Haynes Wilson and his wife, Michelle Polich, of Seattle, Washington, and their two sons, Darren Michael and Brian Haynes; and his two sisters, Evelyn Gillman of Munsey, New York, and Ruth Rose of Watertown, Connecticut. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Richmond, Virginia, at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Shepherd's Center or a charity of your choice.
