Raymond Lescault Obituary

LESCAULT, Raymond Dee, July 13, 1930 to July 13, 2022. A child of the Great Depression and the Oklahoma Dustbowl, Raymond Lee Gilbert was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma to his parents, Frank Garrett and Mary Lou Cooper Gilbert. He was orphaned at an early age and later adopted by Prosper Dee and Mary Victoria Woodyard Lescault of Cherokee, Oklahoma. At Stillwater High School, he met the love of his life, Linda Lu Leachman. After combat service with the U.S. Army in Korea, they settled in Richmond, Va. in 1952, raising five sons.

Raymond was employed 32 years with the Federal Paper Board Company, retiring in 1987. In retirement, he turned to writing, publishing two novels, writing poems and songs.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Linda; his brother-in-law, Roger Leachman; his five sons and their wives, Richard and Alice of Matoaca, Va., Randy and Renee of Charlestown, Ind., Russ and Stephanie of Lynchburg, Va., Robert and Teresa of Salisbury, N.C. and Ray and Kimberly of Midlothian, Va. Besides their sons and daughters-in-law, their union has been blessed with 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Swift Creek Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 30th at 11 a.m. His remains will be interred in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I have known Ray and Linda for at least 20 years as friends and patients. They brighten my day when I see them. Thanks also to them for their wonderful family. I will miss him, but I´ll never forget him.
