Richard Potter

September 15, 1945 - July 9, 2025

Richard Earl Potter, 79, of Lanexa, VA, passed away on July 9, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Brigitte Potter; sister, Sharon Fowlkes; niece, Kelly Ruger; nephew, George Fowlkes and wife, Kerry; grandchildren, Josh and Jennifer Fowlkes; stepchildren, Susan and Tom Muza, Glenda Osby, Lori and Warren White; and his beloved cat, "Fang;" and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Richard is the son of Charles Civial Potter and Ione Potter. He went to New Kent High School to the seventh grade then transferred to Christ Church School in Urbanna, VA, where he graduated. Richard graduated from Hampden-Sydney College; served as an M.P. in the U.S. Army obtaining a rank of Sergeant E5, was a teacher at New Kent High, worked at Ford Motor Company for 22 years, and later as a security guard at Dewitt Wallace Museum in Williamsburg, VA, for 17 years. Richard was a true southern gentleman, history lover, and a passionate animal lover.

A Memorial service will be held at Corinth Baptist Church, 11650 New Kent Hwy, New Kent, VA 23124, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or to the Humane Society.
