Rick Hinchberger Obituary

Rick Lee Hinchberger, 75, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025 at his home in Midlothian, Virginia after a long illness. Rick was born and raised in Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA where he met his beloved wife Mary. In 1973, they were married and then moved to Virginia where Rick attended Union Presbyterian Seminary, graduating with an M.Div. degree in 1977.

After seminary, Rick briefly worked as a stock broker and analyst but spent most of his career as a portfolio manager. He loved the investment business and loved working with his clients.

Rick took an active role in his church and his community. He attended Salisbury Presbyterian Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir, at various times rang handbells with The Salisbury Ringers, served as an elder and Clerk of Session, and was a participant in numerous committees and outreach activities.

He was a great conversationalist, an avid reader, and a committed walker. He was known for his unwavering kindness, his strong leadership, his steadfast nature, and his great sense of humor. He took on new roles, adventures, and opportunities with openness and integrity. He was most proud of his family and found great joy in spending time with them.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, William Dale Hinchberger, his mother, Mary Evalyn Hinchberger, and his brother, Terry Dale Hinchberger. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Hinchberger, his children Erin Owens (Brad) and John Hinchberger, his grandchildren Ellie Owens and Declan Owens, and his sister Judy Whitacre (Cork) as well as many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

To honor Rick's memory, a service will be held at Salisbury Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 13 at 11:00 a.m., and will be followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Salisbury Presbyterian Church Foundation or the Salisbury Presbyterian Church Outreach Ministries.

Rick will be remembered for the amazing example he set for others, and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
