Rita Woltz Obituary

Rita Holmes Robertson Woltz, 78, died Sunday, May 29, 2005 in Winchester after an illness of several weeks. Mrs. Woltz was born November 24, 1926 to Walter Holmes and Frances Lynn Dorsey Robertson in Alexandria, but grew up on "Lawnvale," the family farm at Catharpin near Haymarket in Prince William County. She was a registered nurse, graduating from Garfield Memorial Hospital Nursing School, now part of the Washington Medical Center, in 1947, and was a member of the wartime Cadet Nurse Corps. She was a nurse in her first husband's office in Front Royal, and then was employed at the Winchester Memorial Hospital and for the office of McKee, Hortenstine, and Macubbin, physicians. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and its Altar Guild. She was a member of the Garfield Memorial Nurses Alumnae Association, the Winchester-Clarke Garden Club, having served as its treasurer, the Garden Club of Virginia, a life member of the Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society, a board member of the Woltz-Winchester Foundation, serving as its first and only vice president. She had been a member of the Dick Bowers Duplicate Bridge Club and the Winchester Country Club. Her first husband, Dr. Elliott Clarke Haley of Front Royal, died in 1957. Survivors include her husband, Judge Robert K. Woltz, whom she married October 17, 1959 in her home church, Saint Paul Episcopal in Haymarket; two sons, Dr. E.C. Haley Jr. of Charlottesville, Timothy F. Haley of Northfield, Illinois; three daughters, Lynn W. Bernard of Virginia Beach, Rita R. Woltz and Sarah W. Powers, both of Richmond; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Christ Episcopal Church, 11 a.m., Thursday, June 2, with interment in Mount Hebron Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Woltz Pavilion, Godfrey Miller Home, 28 South Loudon St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Woltz-Winchester Foundation, 50 South Cameron St., Winchester 22601, or the American Cancer Society, 2200 Lake Boulevard, NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30319. Arrangements are with Jones Funeral Home, Winchester, Va.
