Robert Barbie Obituary
Joe grew up in Richmond, Va. and graduated from Cathedral Central High School. He went on to attend Richmond Polytechnic Institute (now known as Virginia Commonwealth University) where he graduated with a degree in Chemistry. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1967 and served until 1969. He worked as a chemist for the state of Virginia and later as an IT specialist for A.H. Robbins. He then worked for the city of Richmond as an IT specialist for their library system.
Joe enjoyed helping with the after school program at Chester Presbyterian Church, working out at American Family Fitness and playing as many bridge games as he possibly could.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at Chester Presbyterian Church, 3424 W. Hundred Road, Chester, Va. 23831, on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Chester Presbyterian Church or The Kiwanis Club Of Chester, Va.

I remember Joe as always being generous with his time and knowledge. He taught me a lot about computers and I have been involved with them since the days of "gofers".

Joe was a man, who was gentle in spirit. He was versatile as a communicator and patient as a teacher. His skill was always to simplify technical processes and simplify them for the layman to understand. May Joe now enjoy his wholeness in God's Holy Kingdom. He was always a joy to work with in the Library.

I worked under Joe for years here at the Library. He was always very kind to me. He was essential here and oversaw tremendous changes. We will all miss him.
