Robert Jones Obituary

Robert Jones

December 6, 1957 - May 23, 2025

Robert Andrew "Andy" Jones, 67, of Hanover, Va., went to be with the Lord Friday, May 23, 2025, following a battle with cancer. Andy was born in North Carolina to the late Robert C. and Jo L. Jones. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, of 42 years; his three sons, who he loved with all his heart, Robert Les (Amanda), Richard D., and Jeffrey L. (Megan) Jones, all of Hanover; his beloved seven grandchildren, Nolan, Elizabeth, Cora, Hayden, Blake, Hannah, and Josie Jones. He is also survived by four siblings, Kathy Mitchell, David Jones (Connie), Becky Lightfoot (AC), and JoElaine Justis (Taylor). Andy was a proud graduate of Fork Union Military Academy, class of 1976. He enjoyed hunting and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was the former president of New Canton Hunt Club in Buckingham of which his family created in 1947. Andy enjoyed playing guitar and loved listening to any song with a 12-string in it. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and could tell you any stat of any driver. He also enjoyed watching his Washington Nationals baseball team and the Washington Commanders Football. One of his highlights was going to the ballfield and cheering his grandchildren on. Recently, he had been getting much enjoyment in setting on the front porch watching the hummingbirds fly around his head and fight! He leaves behind a pile of great memories for us to cherish and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Celebration of life and visitation will be Friday, June 13, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and service at 4 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home in Ashland, Va., In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society.

I am sorry to hear of Andy' passing. He was a kind and thoughtful person and I am fortunate to have known him. I am sorry I was unavailable to attend his service. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

My Dear Brother, I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that you are no longer with us. You fought a good fight, as you always did. I am happy that you no longer have to fight.
Lots of memories have been flooding forth since your passing.
I remember, when we were kids, how you always knew when someone had been playing your 8 track tapes. How did you know?! One of many memories.
I know how much you loved Cindy. She took such love and care of you! And your boys, they were the apple of your eye! Your grandchildren were loved unconditionally by you!
May you soar high on the angels' wings to your final peaceful rest. You will be missed!
Cindy, Rick, Les and Jeff, I share your pain and sorrow at Andy's passing. May the Lord grant us peace and comfort as we say goodbye, until we meet again in Paradise.
Your sister, Kathy
