Robert Weedon Obituary

Robert Craig Weedon

September 18, 1958 - July 10, 2024

Robert C. Weedon, 65, of Richmond, passed away on July 10, 2024, at home following a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Jennifer Ford; daughters Brooke Weedon (Michael Mathias) and Meghan Geronimo (Joseph); and grandson Logan Mathias. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Melvin Weedon, and his sister Rebecca Sue Weedon. At only 15 years old, Robert started working in the kitchens of Shoney's restaurants and worked his way up to owning many businesses, including restaurants in the Captain D's, Shoney's, and Sonic franchises, and creating a new restaurant, Go Bird. Robert was driven by a tremendous work ethic and business acumen and was a remarkable and innovative leader with a big heart for all of the people he worked with. He will be remembered for his selfless love for his family, friends, and employees. Robert and Jennifer shared a passion for bicycling, and Robert enjoyed many European bicycling trips with friends throughout his life. He cherished his final months spent with his wife, daughters, and 10-month old grandson in his beloved Monument Avenue home, all the while never slowing down. There will be a service on Friday, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery Presidents Circle, with a reception to follow at the Hollywood Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Robert you will truly be missed but always in my thoughts. In the year I've worked at Captain Ds and had the pleasure of talking with him he made such an impact on my life and the way I looked at things. Like him I also have that deadly illness but he always knew the right words to say to keep me uplifted and keep me going and encouraging me to stay strong and not give up and let it take over me! He always had a kind, caring heart and always had a smile on his face no matter what. He was truly a blessing to everyone that came across him. I remember the last time I saw him and his last words to me and it will always be in my thoughts everyday. He said "Stephanie it's a beautiful day outside today isn't it? I want you to stay strong and keep pushing forward you are doing an amazing job and thank you for your hard work and dedication you will go far if u keep pushing forward.". My condolences to Jennifer and the family. Gods got a great angel at his side now amd he will be looking down and shining his light upon us.

I have known Robert for about 20 years. I helped him with some of his real estate purchases and handled the leases for some of the Portsmouth properties. He was always friendly, kind, polite and a great client to work with. He always asked how i was doing. A real gentleman. My condolences go out to his family and friends. He will be missed by everyone who ever met him! Tom Dana

I only knew Robert for a brief period of time but he made a lasting impression on me. The more I got to know Robert through business the more I gained respect for him. He was such a good-getter, smart, fair and loyal man. One of a kind for sure. Not to mention, I miss his kind voice he was always pleasant.

The restaurant industry lost a true icon and visionary with the passing of Robert Weedon. He had an amazing and relentless work ethic that he instilled in all of his employees. He always believed that "if better is possible let´s get there". His beautiful wife, Jennifer Ford, fostered his passion for entrepreneurship. Robert was truly a prince among men, it was a true privilege and honor to work for him.
