Gary Michael Aguiar, 77, of Quinton, Virginia passed away peacefully at his home on March 18, 2026.

He was preceded by his parents, Alvaro and Mildred Aguiar; his brother, Wayne; and granddaughter, Stephanie.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara; children, James, Teresa (Nathan), Kay (Jesse), and Karen (Joe). He is also survived by his grandchildren Chris, Amber, Tyler, Eric, Bobbie, Robert, Joseph, Jacob, Jonathan and great grandchildren Grant, Mason, Lawsen, Liam, Averlee and Luna. His brother Richard, of Connecticut, also survives him.

Gary honorable served in the Air Force from 1968-1975 and proudly served his country during the Viet Nam war. After his military service, he continued serving his country as an air traffic controller at Byrd Field later named Richmond International Airport from 1977 until his retirement in 2005. He was a collector of many things from stamps, hot wheel cars and baseball memorabilia to more unique hobbies such as rocketry, raising mealworms and earthworms.

Gary's family would like to thank VCU Massey Cancer Center for their care and support during these past 5 1/2 years, as well as his final care provided by Bayada Hospice. His family would also like to thank his church Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church for their prayers as well as his priest, Reverend Scott Duarte for his spiritual support.

Donations can be made to Victory Junction Camp in Randleman NC, which provides barrier-free camp experiences to children with complex medical needs; Camp Easterseals UCP Virginia; or VCU Massey Cancer Center. Our lives are forever changed by his passing, and this world lost a great person, but our loss is heaven's gain.

The family will receive friends from 2 pm to 4 pm Monday, March 23, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA. A funeral mass will be held 1:30 pm, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2631 Pocahontas Trail Quinton, VA. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
