Roger Jay Bottorff, 89, of Chesterfield went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 24, 2025. He was born in Lincoln, NE, on Friday, September 13, 1935 and was the son of the late Clement Bottorff and Helen Maxine Bottorff. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 49 cherished years, Phyllis Jessup Bottorff; his son, Steven, of Washington, D.C.; daughters, Shari Webb, of San Francisco and Susan Nichols; stepchildren, Betsy Atkins, Ricky and Dan Capel and their families; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was a class of 1958 University of Nebraska graduate and signed a pro contract with St. Louis Cardinals in 1957 as a Left Handed Pitcher. Roger's impressive and fulfilling career after his professional sports tenure continued to include 14 years as General Manager of professional baseball clubs affiliated with the White Sox, Houston Astros and locally as the Richmond Braves General Manager from 1969 – 1975 at Parker Field. He was named International League Executive of the Year in 1974. Roger then became managing director for National Tobacco Festival, ranking in the Top 10 in the US from 1976 – 1982 and coordinator of International Tobacco Exhibitions in Richmond, Raleigh, Winston-Salem and Charlotte. Self-employed in 1983 he served at Southside Speedway as Sales and Marketing/PR/Media Coordinator for 25 years. Roger also was coordinator for ACCA Temple Shrine Central Virginia Pork Festival for 25 years and could be found serving as the Media Coordinator for Oktoberfest of Richmond and Chesterfield County Fair. He also was the hospitality host for Richmond International Raceway sponsors and loved to run the Pit sign-in booth at Virginia Motor Speedway. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Bennett Funeral Home – Chesterfield Chapel, 14301 Ashbrook Parkway, Chesterfield, 23832 for Roger's memorial visitation. I was Roger's secretary at the Richmond Braves for several years and enjoyed my time there. He was a good boss. My sincere condolences to the family.

Always the most professional person in all circumstances, Roger was a delight with whom to work. I had this privilege while planning events for the Tobacco Festivals (while I worked at Hyatt House.) His personality was large, kind, thoughtful, efficient - and not to be overlooked nor forgotten. So very sorry for your huge loss, Bottorff Family.
