Roy Creech Obituary

The Rev. Dr. Roy Oren Creech Jr., 69, husband of Mary (Staton) Creech of 135 Kaolin Spring Lane, Greenville, died Saturday morning, April 26, 2003, in the Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville, Va. He was born on September 8, 1933 in Norfolk, a son of the late Roy Oren Creech Sr. and Virginia Mae (Moore) Creech. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Prior to retiring, Doctor Creech served locally as minister of Christ United Methodist and Calvary United Methodist Churches. At present, he was the interim minister of Schoolfield United Methodist Church, Danville, Va. He was the Chaplain of the Staunton Police and the Augusta County Fire Departments and the Augusta Medical Center. He was a member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge No., 111, Lynchburg Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Union Royal Arch Chapter of Waynesboro. In addition to his wife of over 51 years, to whom he was married on December 27, 1951, family includes two sons, Roy Jonathan Creech of Richmond and Matthew Palen Creech of Greenville; three daughters, Kristle Lea Hodnett of Sutherlin, Tamara Renee Wood and Sandra Lynn Wright, both of Danville; a brother, Ronald Eugene Creech of Gainesville, Fla; four sisters, Sonya Harrell of Williamsburg, Bess Mae Deull of Hampton, Gloria Lee of Newport News, and Wanda Schoenbaun of Gainesville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. A son, Mark Staton Creech, preceded him in death; as well as a sister, Juanita Creech. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29 in the Calvary United Methodist Church by the Rev. Walter B. Failes Jr. An additional memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 30, at 4 p.m. at Schoolfield United Methodist Church in Danville, Va. with Rev. Mary Beth Blinn, DS, officiating. There will be no public viewing. Memorials may be made to the following in lieu of flowers: The Mark Creech Scholarship Fund of Ferrum College, the AMC Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, Va. 22939, the Danville Cancer Society, Danville, Va., or the Schoolfield United Methodist Church. To know him was to love him! Henry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
