Roy Rector

RECTOR, Roy, passed away on March 21, 2024 in Richmond at the age of 93.

Born in Latonia, Kentucky- later moving to Kenton County, KY, where his father purchased a grocery store. After his graduation from Simon Kenton High in 1948, he attended the University of Kentucky, graduating in 1952 with a B.S. in Agriculture.

In 1954, Roy joined Coney Island Amusement Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, 1969 Kings Island Park in Ohio, and in 1972, Kings Dominion, where he was instrumental in the construction of both parks. He served as 'Superintendent of Grounds' in all parks. Roy retired in 1987 after 30 years of service.

From 1980 to 2000, he and son Jeff opened the 'Plantation Garden Center' in Ashland, with Jeff operating the store most of those years.

He is preceded into heaven by his loving wife of 70 years, JoAnn Rector. Roy is survived by his sons, Dan Rector, Jeff Rector (Kathy); daughter, Cindy Axselle (John); nine grandchildren, Danielle, Travis, Taylor, Thomas, Rachel, Kristen, Jennifer, Lauren and John; 14 great-grandchildren, Marla, Aubrey, Bayla, Krozby, Silas, Will, Joe, Jax, Levi, Ezra, Haddie Mae, Ginny Ann, Pepper Rose, and Oliver Thomas.

Roy and JoAnn lived a full and active life travelling in their RV, meeting with family and friends, and serving their Lord.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 27, at Winns Baptist Church, 12320 Winns Church Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059, with visitation to begin one hour prior to the service.
