Robert "Bobby" Hunter, passed away on December 26, 2025. Born in Petersburg, Virginia on October 1, 1943, he was the son of the late Robert E. Hunter, Sr. and Wilma Jeanette Wiseman Hunter and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Lyn. He is survived by his daughters Heather Hunter-Justice (Ryan) of Mechanicsville and Rachel Hunter of Midlothian; granddaughters Kayla Hunter and Lilly Justice of Mechanicsville and Nevaeh Hunter of Midlothian; brothers Donald Hunter (Sandy) of Prince George and David Hunter (Pat) of Spotsylvania; and sisters Patricia "Pat" Hunter of Hopewell and Edith "Jan" Mann (Mitch) of Fairfax. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bobby most recently resided in Interlachen, Florida but spent his final months in Virginia to be closer to his family.
Bobby graduated from Prince George High School, where he played trombone and performed in the Orange Bowl Parade. He also drove a school bus as a student driver. Bobby volunteered with the newly established Prince George Volunteer Fire Department, serving a total of 9 years and holding leadership roles as Secretary, Vice President, and President during his tenure. Bobby studied organic chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University, attended J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College, and studied chemistry at the Richmond Professional Institute. He held various positions that included a lab technician at American Tobacco Company, a lineman at C & P Telephone Company, and a lab technician at Allied Chemical Corporation.
Upon graduating high school, Bobby enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, where he was an instructor. He also served as an aircraft electrician at the 192nd Wing of the Virginia Air National Guard. Bobby was a member of the Virginia State Police, where he retired as a senior trooper. During his years as a trooper, he met the love of his life, Lyn. After retirement, they relocated to Florida and spent many happy years working with crafts, attending fairs throughout the state, and owned and operated Blue Ponds Beads and Gifts, a gift shop featuring handmade jewelry and gifts. He was active in his community, delivering meals to the elderly and shut-ins and providing transportation to those in need. Bobby was a faithful and dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Interlachen, Florida Aerie #3822, where he held the positions of President, Vice President, Trustee, and also served as bar manager. With persistent encouragement from his friends, he learned to enjoy karaoke night and was known to sing "16th Avenue" and "City of New Orleans."
Bobby enjoyed spending time with friends and family and will be remembered for his sense of humor, his knowledge of computers and coding, and his expertise with Excel spreadsheets. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the
