Ruth Green Obituary
Ruth Marie Fitz Green, 93 of Henrico, Va., gained her eternal wings on Friday morning August 15, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 6, 1931, to Claude Swanson Fitz Sr. and Ida Belle Hart in Nottaway County, Va., along with her identical twin sister, Ruby. In 1951 she married her high school sweetheart, Marvin C. Green of Chase City, Va. Together they relocated to Richmond in 1958 where they built their lives together. Ruth was preceded in death by her late husband, daughter Angela Gale Winn, her parents, one brother, C.S. Fitz Jr., twin sister Ruby Tollerson, and daughter-in-law, Sherry Green. She is survived by her son Barry Green (John) of Richmond, Va., daughter Kim Newman (Kevin) of Richmond, Va., son-in-law Scott Winn, grandchildren Dayna Winn (Nancy Kaye), Jeremy Winn (Chrystal), Jill Manning (Matt), and Kelly Wood; as well as her five great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Franklin; and numerous extended family and friends. Growing up, Ruth loved to sing and could always be found singing and enjoying music wherever she was. She was a long-term member of Shady Grove UMC Short Pump Choir, and a member of the ACCA Temple along with her husband, where she was the former 'First Lady' in 1999. She will be remembered for her kind energy, loving heart, and ability to make people laugh, and will be so missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation will be held in her memory on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m., at Bennett Funeral Home West Chapel. A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Shady Grove UMC-Short Pump at 11 a.m., followed by a reception. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society or Music Ministry of Shady Grove UMC-Short Pump.

My sincere condolences to the family. As a child Ruth was my second Mama. I will always cherish my memories of her especially cooking my favorite breakfast pancakes and sharing meals with the family. Rest in peace Mama Ruth. I will always cherish you and hold you dear to my heart.
