Sabrena Hinkle Obituary

HINKLE, Sabrena Sanford, July 12, 2007, after a lengthy siege of pulmonary fibrosis. Born October 18, 1932 to Harry Estil and Mary Lewis Sanford, at "Woodley", Orange County, Va., she attended schools in Culpeper County, Va., graduating in 1953 from King College, Bristol, Tenn. with a cum laude Bachelor's Degree in English. Employed first by the Presbyterian Board of Education in Richmond, Va., she later taught at Laurel Elementary and Douglas Freeman High Schools, and had begun graduate studies at the University of Virginia before her marriage in April, 1959. A homemaker, she raised five children while living in Richmond, Clinton, Iowa, and Wilmington, Del. After two years in Norcross, Ga., she and her husband returned to Virginia for retirement years, living in Fauquier County before their move to Hanover County. A member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Hanover, she was active in church and community functions throughout her life. Beloved, admired, and respected by all, she is mourned and survived by her husband, Dr. Barton L. Hinkle; her children, Karen Wagamon of Wilson, N.C., Douglas Hinkle of Wilmington, Del., Jean Klele of Mechanicsville, Va., Maria Frawley of Chevy Chase, Md. and Elizabeth Landolt of Madison, Va.; and nine grandchildren; sisters, Ellie Foster of Falls Church, Va., Eugenia Sanford of Arlington, Va. and Harriet Prigg of Davidsonville, Md.; and brothers, Walker Sanford of Gordonsville, Va., Richard Sanford of Orange, Va. and Thomas Sanford of Richmond, Va.; plus numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of devoted friends. She was predeceased by sisters, Jo Perry of Leedstown, Va. and Nancy Cantrell of Accomac, Va.; and brothers, Samuel Sanford of Madison, Va. and Benjamin Sanford of Bethany, W.Va. Family will be present to greet friends at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, Rt. 301 and Shady Grove Rd., Monday, July 16, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m. The service of Christian Burial will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hanover, Va. on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. Interment service will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hanover, Va. 23069, or to the Waddell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Rapidan, Va. 22733, the church of her youth and her marriage.
