Shirley Nunnally Obituary

Shirley Wachter Nunnally

October 7, 1934 - July 21, 2025

Shirley Wachter Nunnally, 90, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, in Richmond, Va.

Born on October 7, 1934, Shirley was the daughter of Richard and Grace Wachter. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and continued her education at Mary Washington College.

Shirley was the devoted wife of the late M. Bruce Nunnally. Together they built a life centered around family and love. She was a proud mother to Kim Ward (Joe), Cheryl Kleindienst, and David Nunnally (Sandy). Her legacy continues through grandchildren: George Bland (Clare), Brandon Nunnally (Caley), Chelsea Kleindienst (Dustin), Mackenzie Kroll (Michael), and Cameron Ward; and her great-grandchildren: Andrew Bland, Ryan Bland, Benjamin Nunnally, Marley Nunnally, Isabella Kroll, Mollie Kate Nunnally, and Wilhelmina Kroll.

Known as the epitome of a Southern belle with just enough grit to let a swear word fly when needed Shirley brought warmth and spirit to every gathering. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on her loved ones at baseball games or ballet recitals alike. Her presence was a constant source of encouragement and pride for her family across generations.

A funeral service will be held Monday July 28th at 11 a.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1400 Horsepen Road in Richmond. (With a reception to follow.)

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Saint Christopher's School.

Shirley's life was marked by grace, strength, and deep devotion to those she loved. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.

Dear Cheryl, Kim, and family, I am so saddened to read this. I have many wonderful (and fun, too!) memories of Shirley at your home on Asbury Court. Your mother was simply an extraordinary lady who deeply loved her family and always made me feel welcomed. She was so easy to be around and lend an ear when I needed one. Thinking of all of you.
