January 23, 1946 - October 18, 2024
Sekerdy, Stephen (Steve) Linwood Master Sergeant (VANG retired), of Richmond, Va. Went home to be with the Lord on October 18 2024, at the age of 78.
Stephen was born January 23, 1946, in Mannheim, Germany. The family came to U.S. in 1949. He grew up in Richmond, Virginia.
Preceded him in death father (Alex), mother (Eleanor) and brother (George).
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia of 22 years, daughter Stephanie (Ed); grandson, Blake; and granddaughter, Kirtly; stepbrothers, Alex Sekerdy, Jr. (Charlotte), David Sekerdy, Daniel Sekerdy; and stepsister, Natalie Cline.
Graduated from Douglas Freeman H. S. Attended VCU. Served in Virginia National Guard 23 years. Achieved the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8). Retired from Virginia Correctional Enterprise. Volunteer work; Church member home visits, FeedMore Volunteer, usher at Diamond (Flying Squirrels). Occasional letter writer RTD (Letters to editor). Member of Grove Avenue Church since 1999. In lieu of flowers, make a contribution to Words of Victor TV Ministry.
His family will receive friends at Woody's Funeral Home-Parham, 1771 N. Parham Rd, Richmond, VA 23229, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday October 24, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 1 p.m., at Woody Funeral Home Parham Chapel, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229, with interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23238.
