Steve Ashley Obituary

Steve "Sonny" Ashley, 68, of Shanghai, Va., King & Queen County, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003. He was President of Ashley Logging Company, established by his father in 1948. Sonny spent most of his life working with trees. He found great joy in working on the tractor, bush hogging and grading roads. Sonny was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren and looked forward to Sunday lunches with the family. His parents, Steve and Evelyn Ashley preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight and a half years, Dorothy Taylor Ashley; two daughters and their husbands, Diane and Warren Rainier of Hartfield, Mary and Jimmy Elliott of Mechanicsville; a son, Steve Ashley, Jr. of Shacklefords; a sister and her husband, Jean and Michael Jeffreys of Virginia Beach; four brothers and their wives, Tommy and Myrna Ashley of Shanghai, Bobby and Bertha Ashley of Little Plymouth, Camb and Wilma Ashley of West Point, Michael and Pamela Ashley of Shanghai; three grandchildren, Carroll Carter III, Shannon and her husband Chad Williams, and Chama Elliott; nine nieces and one nephew. A funeral service will be held Friday 3 p.m. at Lower King and Queen Baptist Church, Dragonsville, Va. Interment in church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight and Thursday 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, Va. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, c/o Minor Trevelian, HCR 2, Box 576, Shacklefords, Va. 23156 or to Lower King and Queen Baptist Church, HC-74, Box 330, Mattaponi, Va. 23110.
