Steve Suggs
December 4, 1932 - January 5, 2025
Steven (Steve) James Oscar Suggs of Goochland, VA, passed away on January 5, 2025, in the home with his cherished wife, Georgeanna. Born December 4, 1932, in Bladenboro, NC, he was the son of the late John W. Suggs and Lillie Davis Suggs. Steve was an avid farmer and carriage enthusiast.
The many who knew and loved Steve often referred to him as the "Wagon Master." His idea of relaxation involved restoring carriages and driving them. His blue eyes twinkled, and he always had a broad smile when he talked about his collection. He once said, "It's something we can hold on to, something that's familiar. It's a connection, a link to your heritage, like roots, you might say." Steve was a self-made, hard–working, God-loving man, who lived every day to its fullest. He was a proud and faithful member of Byrd Presbyterian Church, and he was a loved and respected businessman in Goochland County. He enjoyed connecting with farmers and reminiscing about the past, a much slower intimate time of living.
In addition to his parents, Steve is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby May Weldy Suggs; and sister Elma Gray Suggs Robbins. Steve is survived by his loving wife of more than 20 years, Georgeanna Fowler Gibbs Suggs; his stepdaughter, Kristine Gibbs Roberts Ford (Page): his stepson Kyle Morgan Gibbs (Christy); his stepgrandchildren, Morgan Roberts Lawrence (Chance), Philip Austin Roberts (Samantha), Kariss Michelle Gibbs, and Kelsey Morgan Gibbs; his great-grandchildren, Wyatt Kelly Hommel and Logan Massie Roberts; his brother, John L. Suggs, Sr. (Roy); his sister, Lois Suggs Barton; his nephews John L. Suggs, Jr., Troy Dean Suggs, Joseph Wayne Suggs, Paul Suggs, Ralph Suggs, James Jernigan; and his niece, Tammy Jernigan.
A private visitation will be held for the family. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Byrd Presbyterian Church, Goochland, Virginia. Interment to follow at Byrd Presbyterian Cemetery. Reverend Jock O'Connell will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Steve to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA. 22911 or Byrd Presbyterian Church, P.O.
