Susan Evans Mangin
Susan Evans Mangin died peacefully at her home in Richmond, Va., on September 17, 2025, at the age of 49.
Susan Lynn was born on March 23, 1976, in Greensboro, N.C., to proud new parents, Chip and Donna Evans. From early in her life, Susan brought a great deal of joy to her family with her inquisitive nature, big sister love, and warrior spirit. As an adult, Susan treasured her close relationships with her "first" family and cherished her parents' guidance, support and family-focused marriage.
Susan was a great athlete. Whether swimming, soccer, or tennis, she loved being a competitor, loved her teammates and was always dedicated to being the very best she could be.
Susan was an outstanding student and professional. A voracious reader and a perfectionist, Susan was always learning and took pride in achieving success in her schoolwork and her career.
A fiercely loyal and dedicated friend, Susan's unwavering character, unconditional devotion to her friends and family, and honest, authentic personality, served as a bedrock for her many deep friendships. She cherished her lifelong friends from Grimsley High School, UNC-Chapel Hill, Kappa Delta Sorority, Wake Forest University, Hermitage Country Club, NOVA swimming and beyond.
Susan's family was the center of her universe. The home and life she built with Chris was the greatest joy of her life. Evan and Rose's well-being, growth, and happiness were her top priority for the last two decades and true to her character, she excelled at motherhood. Susan did not take for granted the blessings of her family, and cherished watching Evan and Rose develop into accomplished, kind and independent young adults. Chris, Evan and Rose were her world and her greatest accomplishment.
Susan lived to the fullest even as the years were cut short. It was a life full of love, family, her dogs, friends, tennis, swimming, traveling, laughter, and dreams.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Christopher Mangin, Jr.; her children, Evan Benedict Mangin and Rose Caroline Mangin; her parents, Waverly Chester Evans, III (Chip) and Donna Metzger Evans; her sister, Lisa Parks (spouse Will); her brother, Michael Evans (spouse Taemi); her father and mother-in-law, Christopher Mangin, Sr. and Renee Mangin; her sister-in-law, Tracy Smith (Spouse Ryan); and her nieces and nephews, Trip and Hugh Parks, Bennett, Clark and Josh Evans, and Lanie and Aubrey Smith.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd, Henrico, Va., on Sunday, September 21st, at 2:30 p.m., with a reception to follow immediately after at the Church.
