Thelma Bethel Obituary

Thelma Webb Bethel

Thelma Webb Bethel, 98, of Henrico, Va., died peacefully at home on September 14, 2025. She was born in the village of Woodton, England, on November 10, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Pete" Bethel; and son, Brian Bethel. Thelma is survived by daughters, Marion Bethel and Beverly Newman; son, John Bethel; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Bethel; as well as five grandchildren.

She arrived in the U.S. in 1946 as an English WWII bride and devoted herself to raising four children as a homemaker. Later she retired from Retail Merchants Association after two decades of service.

Thelma was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including serving a yearlong mission with her husband in Perry, Okla. The family would like to thank the Gayton Ward family for their love and support, and Enhabit Hospice, especially her nurses Crystal and Lee, and hospice aide Michelle, for their compassionate care. Thelma was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

A graveside ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 20th, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Lane, Richmond, Va. 23222. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
