Thelma Daniel Obituary
October 7, 1930 - August 16, 2024
Thelma Laffoon Daniel, age 93, of Alberta, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024 while surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Brunswick County, she was the daughter of the late Alonza Wilkins and Carrie Rawlings Laffoon. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles C. Daniel; son-in-law, Leonard F. "Derick" Thomas, Jr.; siblings, Alonza Wilkins Laffoon, Jr., Clifton Burgess Lafoon (Helen), Willard Laffoon (Eolin), Etta L. Ogburn (Melvin), Elnor L. Maitland (Lloyd), and Ida L. Maitland (Elson). Mrs. Daniel was a lifelong member of Macedonia United Methodist Church. She retired from the Department of Agriculture after 36 years of service with Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Services. She devoted many hours volunteering at a local nursing home and loved helping people just like her mama taught her. She is survived by her daughters, Wanda D. Thomas and Connie D. Bailey (Roger); grandchildren, Matthew D. Thomas, Preslee-Anne Thomas, and Carrie K. Bailey; special sister-in-law, Doma D. Browder; as well as many special nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the Amedisys Hospice of Blackstone, especially Cathy Wilson, who was a Godsend to Thelma and her family during this difficult time.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA followed by interment at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to Macedonia United Methodist Church c/o Connie D. Bailey, 6437 Brunswick Drive, Alberta, VA 23821.
