Thomas Gordon Obituary

Thomas Christian Gordon Jr., lawyer, jurist and artist, died May 17, 2003 at age 87. He was the son of Thomas C. Gordon and Ruth Nelson Robins Gordon. He is survived by a niece, four nephews, and great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Judge Gordon served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Italy in World War II, attaining the rank of Major. He was a longtime partner of McGuireWoods LLP, where he served as chairman of the firm. In 1965, Judge Gordon left the firm to serve on the Virginia Supreme Court. In 1972, he retired from the Court and returned to McGuireWoods LLP. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 815 East Grace Street, Richmond. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Foundation to be used for the endowment of the position of Director of the Studio Art School.
