Thomas Walker Obituary

WALKER, Thomas Bryan, 68, of Richmond, passed away at his home on April 21, 2024, surrounded by his family. Tom was born May 26, 1955, to William "Bill" and Anne Walker of Richmond. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Roslyn Simon Walker; son, Louis William Walker (Ashley); daughters, Lauren Walker Turner (Patrick) and Rebecca Walker Jones (Henry); his beloved grandchildren, Amelia, Reese, Lawton, Walker, Hugh and Anne; sisters, Jane Walker Baggett (Tom) and Barbara Walker Cotton (Glyn); and brothers, Daniel Walker (Brenda) and Kenneth Walker as well as many loved brothers and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Midlothian High School in 1973 and Hampden-Sydney College in 1977. His love of the H-SC Tigers ran deep, never missing a Homecoming game or celebration with his Kappa Alpha brothers, holding onto that youthful spirit even through adulthood. Coupled with his passion for H-SC, he purchased land in nearby Prospect, VA, affectionately known as "Dog Hill". It became his sanctuary, a place for fellowship, and a place for lifelong memories for people of all walks of life. The Appomattox River, which runs through the property, is and always will be water that can cleanse and purify the soul, and Tom loved sharing that with anyone who wanted to visit.

After college, Tom worked in the construction and real estate industries. Eventually forming and operating two successful businesses. First, Walker-Hudson Construction and years later, Walker Realty.

Tom's zest for life carried him to fill many roles and his life was enriched by the countless services he selflessly performed. Tom was a dedicated member and past president of the South Richmond Rotary Club where he would brag about his "perfect attendance". He embodied their motto "service above self", earning one of their highest awards, The Golden Spur. Tom's philosophy of unselfish volunteer service through Rotary helped to provide humanitarian aid to local and international communities. Tom was also a board president at the Sacred Heart Center of Richmond, a board member of North Star Academy, and an active member and past president of the Richmond Property Owners Association. He served St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with unwavering dedication, helping with holiday services, grounds maintenance, teaching Sunday school classes, serving on the vestry, and filling any gap that was needed.

Tom always made you feel like you were his favorite friend. Whether you were a tenant on his property, a contractor on a job site, or a freshman at a football tailgate, he was always excited to be with you and interested in what you had to say. Greater than all of his life accomplishments was his unwavering love for his family. His family and friends are left to cherish many memories and lessons learned on Dog Hill, boat rides at the river, family holidays, tailgates, and numerous Church and Rotary events.

Family and friends will be received at Bliley's Funeral Home located at 3801 Augusta Ave, Richmond, VA 23230 on Sunday, April 28th from 2 to 5 p.m. There will be a memorial service held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on Monday, April 29th at 2 p.m., located at 6000 Grove Ave. Richmond, VA 23226.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to South Richmond Rotary Club at Foundation PO Box 29146 Henrico, VA 23242, the H-SC Thomas Walker memorial fund (alumni.hsc.edu/walker), or St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Dear Rosie,
When I spoke to you on the tennis court last week, I was shocked to learn that your dear husband had passed away. I looked up his obituary and realized I had been out of town when it appeared in the Richmond paper.
Please accept my sincere condolences for your huge loss. I am sorry that I did not have the opportunity to know such a wonderful husband , father, and friend. He sounds like one who made great contributions to the various communities to which he belonged. I know you and your children and grandchildren miss him terribly.
I pray that your many happy memories of Tom and the love of your family and friends will bring comfort to you as you grieve.

With love and deepest sympathy,
Harriette Will

To Roszie and the Walker family, I was saddened to learn of Tom´s death back in April. He was a great guy, kind, genuine and friendly, and a pleasure to work with. He and I served together for some years on the Sacred Heart Center board.
It has been nice over these past few months to share memories about Tom when I encounter other friends who knew him. I know he Is greatly missed. I am thankful for good memories and his legacy defining how to lead a good and meaningful life.
With much fondness,
Betse Trice
P.S. The photograph of Tom is wonderful.

Had the pleasure of knowing Tom for about 9 years. He really did make me and everyone else feel like a long lost relative. He was very kind, smart, and a joy to be around. I will be eternally smiling when thinking of him and how he made me feel at the Rpoa meetings. His warmth, comfort and curiosity for everyone would always infect the room. Tom will be missed very much. Thank you for sharing him with us.

To the Walker family, I just wanted to express my dearest condolences to all of Tom´s family. I was friends with Tom when he arrived at Midlothian High School with all the newbies from Huguenot High in 10th grade. He was always smiling and there for his friends. When I was at Longwood and he at HS, we would see each other at many functions. He took time to answer my many questions about flipping houses, and after he spent hours at my dining room table, I decided, Nooooooo to that! I am so glad he made it to our reunion and we had time to spend together. Love you Roz and know I will always be here for you and my heart is so heavy now, but know he is in a great place now with another dear friend of mine, Ward Phillips. Peace to you and your family. Love, Linda S Carroll
