Torrie Johnson Obituary

Torrie Ileya Johnson, 17, of Chesterfield County, departed this life Tuesday, July 4, 2006. She was preceded in death by her mother, Renee Johnson. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her parents, Clayton and Justine Johnson; one stepbrother, Antonio "T.J." David; two grandmothers, Martha Nixon and Delores Ward; great-grandparents, Matthew and Martha Otey; two devoted aunts, Dorothy Nixon and Tina Eddings; a devoted friend, Eva Sheridan; a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at March Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Avenue, where viewing will be held on Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Homegoing service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Greater Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 2210 Carter Street. Bishop Mack A. Vincent Sr. officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

I know there are no words that can truly confort at this time. But I want the family to know how much this young lady has touched so many lives. I had the blessing of caring for Torrie at CJW, and from the first time I walked into her room I knew I could never see the world in the same way. She was such a warm and considerate person. She exhibited a grace that you rarely see in someone so young. May God grant you all comfort and peace even though we may not understand all that happens in this world.

For so many years I wondered how Baby Girl was doing. As sad as I was to find out, my heart has been lifted knowing that you are free and happy, and that you have made it home. You obviously maintained that ability to bring a smile out of everyone you came into contact with. I cried as I read all the great things that people have said about you, but they are tears of joy, knowing how much you were able to impact so many people in such a short amount of time. I had the pleasure of meeting

Torrie when we fellowshipped at Bishop Mack Vincent's church. She was a very sweet, determined young lady. She was always well spoken and mannerable. She put all she had in whatever she did. This was noted in the work she did on the step team. My daughters had the pleasure of working with her on the Step team group she started at Tabernacle of Praise Temple. I did not know it at the time, but when I was a child, I was a member of the church where her grandfather on her mother's side was an evangelist, (Evangelist Oscar Eddings). This just goes to show that it really is a small world.

I taught you in 7th grade History. A firey spirt and quick wit and sweet young lady. I will never know God's wisdom, nor will I question or complain. You have touched people here on Earth and now you have been chosen to be with God. You will be missed by those that you touched briefly like myself. I know that you are gone and you are watching over us, and i know you are glad that you have made it to heaven to be wit your moms. but i want you to know . that you are goin to be greatly missed. Even tho we did not talk on the reqular basis.. you always knew that you and dorian would always have a place in my heart. When i heard that you made it to tha greater place.. all i could think about was back wen you was in 8th grade. and i was in 7th at manchester. and we was on the step team. with our favorite DORIAN!! and we all would talk and laff and get in trouble because we was just crazii and outgoing. I knew then that you were an individual with lots of strength and spirit. Although I only knew you for a short time, you truly touched my life. I was shocked when I received an email from one of our friends in Richmond yesterday informing me of your loss, and I am so sorry that I am unable to be there for you during this time. But, it is with my deepest sympathy that I send my condolences to you for your loss.

I only remember Torrie as a small child. She was happy and she looked and dressed just like you, Justine, which included a dress with white stockings. That memory will last a lifetime. May your memories bring you comfort as well.

We do, however have comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Praise God for that!

I just want to say that my condolences and prayers go out to Torrie's family. Torrie was always like the life of a good time and she always spoke her mind and she definitely kept it real. When I heard that she had passed I didn't believe at first and then I read the obituary in the paper and then it hit me. Torrie "Hollywood" and Family:

What a huge loss for us all!! I will never forget her Prom night as long as I live. What a beautiful day that was. I have learned so much from watching Torrie come into our office. How many of us have that kind of spirit with the minor illnesses that we have? This baby has truly been an inspiration to me. I know that you will miss her greatly. The last time i saw Mama Torrie was 2 years ago before i left Va. She was trying to cheer me up because i didn't want to leave. She was honestly one of the most genuinely kind hearted people I've ever come across. Since 6th grade she was like an older sister to me and i called her Mama Torrie. It broke my heart to know that she had passed away and i couldn't even be there to send my condolences to her family. But now i know that she is in a better place free of pain.
