Van R. Elliott

ELLIOTT, Van R., of Manakin-Sabot, Va., passed away peacefully Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 80 years young after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Warren D. Elliott Sr. Van spent her earlier years outside of Dallas, Texas before eventually raising her family in Richmond. She is survived by her daughter, Cindi Cooke; son, W. Douglas Elliott Jr. and his wife, Mindy; and daughter, Ginger Elliott of Dallas; also her four grandchildren, Elliott and Briggs Cooke, Lauren and Blayre Elliott; and devoted caregiver, Charlotte Smith. Van was a LIFETIME member of Hermitage Country Club, an active member in HCC Ladies Golf, the Richmond Women's Golf Association, the Goochland Republican Women's Association, a 33-year member of the Centerville Co. 3 Rescue Squad, and a longstanding member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church. She was also affiliated with Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Van was devoted to her family, especially grandchildren, and dog, Murphy. Aside from her many activities, Van enjoyed spending time with her friends, traveling, volunteering, golfing and being active in her community. Her firey spirit and forthright honesty will be missed by all. A funeral will be conducted at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Centerville at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements by the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Co. 3 Centerville Rescue Squad or St. Matthew's United Methodist Church.
