Victoria Jacob Obituary

JACOB, Victoria Ann, 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, after over a decade of battling early on-set dementia. Known as "Vicky", "Nana", or "Nan" to most, her life revolved around her family, food, and her passion for children and animals – if you ever knew Vicky, she was constantly stirring a pot of pasta sauce, surrounded by her grandkids and their friends, with dogs at her feet and a parrot on her shoulder. Vicky dedicated her golden years to selflessly raising and caring for four of her grandchildren and spent all her time making sure everyone in her family felt loved, cared for, supported, and safe. Vicky was a generous, nurturing, and compassionate person whose kindness and open-hearted nature made it easy for her to be everyone's "Nan." Her constant stock of sugary cereal and Pop-Tarts in the pantry made "Nana and Grandpa's" house a very popular place to be for many of the neighborhood kids. Vicky is survived by her sister, Darlene Coleman; brother, Richard III (Jo); daughter, Charlene Cook; and grandchildren, Stacey Samitt (Jeff), Donnie Coleman, and Noah Jacob, all of Richmond, Ashley Clarke Gall (Josh), of Austin, Texas, Rachel Clarke Butler (Todd) of Virginia Beach, and Cailin Cook (Cam), of Alexandria; great-granddaughter, Charlie Wren Butler; as well as nieces, Dawn Graham (Hilton) and Michele Kelly (Tom); nephews, and "honorary grandkids." She is also survived by her best friend of many years, Geri Dailey, of Short Pump. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Marie Jacob; husband, Richard Jacob Jr.; daughter, Laurie Clarke; sister, Diane J. Barton; brother-in-law, Don Coleman; and grandsons, Mark Barton and David Cook. A special thank you to the staff at Westmont for their care of Vicky in her final years, Donna Kurtze, and most of all to her sister, Darlene, who lovingly cared for and visited Vicky daily for the last 10+ years, and always knew how to make her smile. The family will gather privately in honor of Vicky, as were her wishes. If you'd like to send the family a note, fond memory, or photo of Vicky, please visit bennettfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Vicky's name to Greater Richmond Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) at www.grscan.com or Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU at https://www.chrichmond.org/.
