Virgie McDonald Obituary

Virgie Hawkins Mayo McDonald died June 26, 2003 in Plano, Texas. She was born September 3, 1908 in Smyth County, Va. and was the daughter of Robert Hix Hawkins and Betty Brewer Hawkins Patton. She was a long-time resident of Richmond, Va. before moving to Dallas, Texas in 1973, where she was a member of the Second Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilmoth McDonald and is survived by her daughter, Virginia Mayo Armstrong Burton of Rowlett, Texas; two grandchildren, Benjamin Armstrong, Jr. and wife, Carol, of Garland, Texas and Sonia Brown and husband, Jim, of Dallas; two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Mable McMillan of Radford, Va.; stepson, W.G. McDonald Jr. and wife, Kitty, of Maryland; step-granddaughter, Barbara Wright; two stepgreat-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 2 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond. Memorials in her memory may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 560089, Dallas, Texas 75356-0089. Rest Haven, Rowlett Chapel, Rowlett 972-412-5195. Owned by the Cain Family.

Nannie is gone now and I will miss her but just a few weeks ago she told me how ready she was to make this journey. I know she has a great big smile on her face as she gazes down on her family and friends with Granddaddy at her side. Love always, Barbara.
