Virginia Watkins Obituary
November 28, 1922 - April 15, 2025
Virginia Nanney Watkins of Richmond passed away on April 15, 2025 at the age of 102. She is preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Jack and Harry Nanney; two sisters, Frances Triguero and Amelia Lynn; her beloved husband, Thomas I. Watkins; and her precious grandson, Thomas Andrew Watson. She is survived by her only daughter, Jeanne Watkins Lovelock (Frank Watson); her granddaughter Leslie Watson Harris (Joe Bishop); 3 loving grandsons, Andrew, Alexander and Jack Harris; one brother, Frank L. Nanney (Barbara) of South Hill, Virginia; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Virginia graduated from Garfield Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. in 1943 and worked as a registered nurse until her retirement from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in 1984. She was an avid reader, gardener, seamstress, and knitter. She and her husband, Tommy, loved to travel up and down the East Coast from Nova Scotia and Maine to the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains. She was a loyal member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church since 1956. She was also a member of Accaba Court No. 105 of the Ladies' Oriental Shrine of North America.
A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Richmond at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The family encourages the wearing of Virginia's favorite color, purple, to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Anglican Frontier Missions or to the Westminster Canterbury Foundation, in honor of the wonderful and loving care she received there in the final years of her life.
