Walter Logan Manning Jr.

MANNING, Walter Logan, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2023, surrounded by family and in the arms of his wife and soul mate, Betty.

Walter, a retired former owner of Jackson and Bell Printing in Wilmington, N.C., was an intelligent, successful, quiet and thoughtful man. He fearlessly embraced life with a young widow who had four children, the youngest having special needs. For the unwavering love, guidance and support Walter gave his wife and children over the years, we are eternally grateful.

Walter was preceded in death by his father, Walter L. Manning Sr.; mother, Mary Arebelle Furlough; sister, Linda Manning; and daughter, Melissa J. Wingfield. Daughter, Laura A. Wingfield, closely followed Walter in death on July 16, 2023.

Walter is survived by his beloved wife and companion of over 43 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Manning; children, William R. Wingfield (Bella) and Elizabeth W. Nuckols (Bill); grandchildren, Elise Smith, Ashley Wingfield, Hayley Welch and Megan Wingfield; as well as six great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Gerling (Bob); and special cousin, John Furlough.

Walter's departure leaves us with great sadness, and we will miss him immensely.
