Ward McManus Obituary
July 4, 2025
Ward Joseph McManus of Richmond, VA passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025 at the age of 75. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather also affectionately know as Poppy. A true family man at his core he spent countless hours enthusiastically supporting his daughters and granddaughters at their cheerleading competitions, gymnastics meets, horse shows, and swim meets. He loved vacationing at the beach with his family, decorating the house for each holiday, especially Christmas to the delight of his granddaughters, and being the first person his girls called for help knowing he would always be there at a moments notice. He was happiest when surrounded by his girls, and was the best girl Dad and Poppy anyone could ask for.
He was a sports enthusiast who had a passion for the game of golf and looked forward to his annual golf trips to Myrtle Beach with good friends. He often enjoyed watching football, baseball, and basketball, but golf tournaments always took precedence. He made his family and friends laugh at the most unexpected moments. His quick wit and sense of humor made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Susan, daughters Tanya (Jim) and Paige, granddaughters Carter and Logan, and siblings Connie, Barry (Andrea), and Mark (Robyn). He will be dearly missed.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the palliative care team at VCU hospital and the team at VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center for their unwavering care and compassion.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 8th at Hope Church in the Lodge, 12445 Patterson Avenue, Richmond. A reception will follow directly after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.

We enjoyed our trips together to the mountains and our visits to Richmond over the years. Your sharp sense of humor was always appreciated. I remember you telling me how you were going to volunteer for the reserves in 1969 and you chose the one with the shortest line, USMC, not your smartest move:) You will be missed.

Ward was the happiest when surrounded by "his girls". His devotion to his family and friends was incredible. His quick with and twinkling eyes will be so missed. We love you Ward. Look over us.
