William Adams Obituary

ADAMS, William "Walt", Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of William Walton "Walt" Adams, 63, of Richmond, VA, who died at home on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, after a courageous struggle to come back from a devastating bicycle accident.

Walt felt great freedom when running, winning many races throughout his running career. Most notably he was a four-time winner of the Richmond Marathon and a two-time qualifier in the US Olympic Trials in the marathon. He regularly enjoyed running and walking in both Byrd Park and Maymont Park. Walt loved to visit Monty the Bobcat at Maymont. Walt's passion for nature led him to joyful outdoor pursuits - he logged uncountable miles on his fast feet.

Walt was born in Birmingham, AL, and grew up in Lexington, VA. After attending the University of Virginia, he had a successful career in technology, making friends wherever he worked.

Walt was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Sara Kennedy Adams. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Linda; brother, John Adams (Heather); brother-in-law, Martin Johnson; sister-in-law, Frances Johnson; sister-in-law, Brenda Woodcock (Clay), five nieces and two nephews, two great-nephews, one great-niece, and two uncles.

Walt will be remembered for his deep love and devotion to his wife Linda whom he adored, his effervescence and boundless energy, a generosity of spirit, love of cats, and ready sharing of his humor, logic, assistance, and wine collection with friends and family.

A memorial service will be announced later. Donations in his memory can be sent to either Sheltering Arms Institute or Maymont Park Foundation.

Walt always had a smile and sometimes a joke when I saw him in the neighborhood. His energy, presence and smile are missed.

Deepest condolences to Walt´s family. I did not personally know him but when I was an active runner he was one of the premier running athletes in Virginia and I saw him in countless competitions . A tough competitor and dominating winner.

RIP Walt Adams.
