William Odell "Bill" McCleney

1940 - 2023

MCCLENEY, William Odell "Bill", 82, of Richmond, died on September 21, 2023. Bill was born on September 26, 1940, in Chowan County, N.C. He was predeceased by his father, William Carey McCleney and his mother, Evelyn Jernigan McCleney. Bill is survived by his loving and caring sister, Jean M. Turk of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; dear friends, Pam and Walker Richardson of Mechanicsville; many cousins and friends. Bill was retired Manager of University Mail Services with Virginia Commonwealth University after 28 years and nine months dedicated service. He was also a part-time employee with the Bennett Funeral Home for more than 35 years. Bill was a long-time member of First English Evangelical Lutheran Church and The Leisure Group.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., Richmond. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. That afternoon there will be visitation from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, N.C. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, it was his request that contributions be made to the Memorial Fund, First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1603 Monument Ave., Richmond, Va. 23220.
