William Winders Morrison

MORRISON, Mr. William Winders, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 2, 2021, at the age of 82. Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara; his daughters, Lori (Trent) Mills and Lisa (Barry) Herndon; granddaughter, Paige (John) DeMarzo; grandsons, Trey Palmore, Tyler Palmore and Drew Mills (fiancé Rose Schneider). Bill is also survived by his sister, Mary Maxwell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bill and Barbara were married while Bill was in the Air Force and started married life in Bangor, Maine. After the Air Force, Bill and Barbara settled back in Ashland, Va. Bill worked at Eskimo Pie, the U.S. Post Office and other jobs before settling into a career with and retired from Reynolds Metals.

Bill enjoyed life including being a gentleman farmer, cutting grass and making runs to the dump. Through those tasks, he helped out neighbors and church friends.

Bill served for many years at Gwathmey Baptist Church in many capacities including as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He also enjoyed helping with buildings and grounds chores like grass cutting and painting.

Bill will be missed by his family, especially at our weekly Sunday lunches after church. "Pa Bill" always had some wisdom to share with his children and grandchildren and kept us laughing at the table.

We know that Bill is now enjoying a Hardee's biscuit and a cup of coffee with his family and friends that have gone on before him.

Visitation will be at Gwathmey Baptist Church, 11232 Gwathmey Church Road, Ashland, Va. on Wednesday, September 8, from 4 to 6 p.m., and on Thursday, September 9 at 11 a.m. The memorial service will be held at the church on the 9th at 12 p.m. with private burial in Signal Hill Memorial Park at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gwathmey Baptist Church.
