William Calvin Murphy, Sr.

August 7, 1926 - October 3, 2025

William C. Murphy, Sr., 99, of Richmond, died October 3, 2025. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dahlia B. Jones Murphy, and two sons, William C. Murphy, Jr. and Stanley R. Murphy. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn E. Murphy; daughter, Sharon Murphy- Sims (John); two sons, Ralph C. Murphy and Michael G. Murphy (Valerie); 15 grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, three great-great- grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Rev. Dr. Blanche Murphy; three stepsons, Adolphus Haynes, Jr., Trent Haynes, Sr. (Toni) and Jeffery Haynes (Mary); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Murphy was the first African American postmaster in Virginia Beach, Va., and retired after 35 years of service.

Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where viewing will be held Sunday, October 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 13, at Thirty First Street Baptist Church, 823 North 31st Street. Rev. Dr. Joshua Mitchell, officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
