William Streicker Obituary

STREICKER, William Francis, 76, passed away on March 1, 2024. He departed the world peacefully at his home in Richmond, Virginia, surrounded by family.

Will was born on June 3, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York. He earned his bachelor's degree from Yale University, attended medical school at New York University and completed his residency at the Medical College of Virginia. He was head of the Emergency Department of Johnston-Willis Hospital for ten years and then established PromptCare, an urgent care medical practice which he ran in Richmond and Charlottesville, Virginia, for thirty years.

Will is irreplaceable. He was a Renaissance man with a wide range of talents, interests and accomplishments. He was a physician, athlete, musician, investor, world traveler, designer and photographer. He had a thirst for adventure with a special love for whitewater canoeing. He surrounded himself with song throughout his life, from his time in the Yale Glee Club in college to hosting musicians in his home. Whether singing for heads of state with the Yale Alumni Chorus, singing endless rounds of Wheels on the Bus with his grandson or spontaneously bursting into song, music was central to his life. There was always music playing (usually loudly!) when Will was around.

Will always had a project going and in recent years, many were focused on his cabins on the Little Piney River in the Blue Ridge Mountains. He brought characteristic joy and passion to all of his endeavors. He built glass bottle and cordwood houses, a Japanese tea house, a swinging bridge and a glass Victorian conservatory, creating a magical world that he loved to share with others.

Will often said he had no regrets. He was a role model for living life to the fullest and those who knew him were lucky to experience his generosity, creativity, and kindness. He was caring as a physician and was genuinely interested in everyone he met. He was clever and funny. He often told his family how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. And he was loved deeply in return.

Will was preceded in death by his parents Shirley J. Streicker and Walter M. Streicker and his brother John H. Streicker. He is survived by his wife, Beverly, his children Sarah (Travis) and Daniel (Mafalda), his grandchildren Jonah and Jacob, and by his brother Paul Streicker (Kathie) and many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 13, 2024 at 2 in the afternoon at The Commonwealth Club in Richmond, where Will was a longtime member. In lieu of flowers, we ask that friends wishing to honor Will make a donation to Doctors Without Borders (https://donate.doctorswithoutborders.org/secure/donate) or One Voice Chorus,P. O. Mr Will...Your wit, sparkle, fun-loving nature and soft spoken ways
set you apart from so many.
I still walk your cabin paths in wonderment of the magical structures and lights which you created.
Wherever you were, you welcomed others to join in merriment and friendship.
You are so missed here; but certainly your spirit will be shared by many fortunate others.

My heart goes out to Beverly, Sarah, Daniel and all those who love and cherish Will and mourn his transitioning from the physical plane all too soon. Will, as his obit makes clear, is a singular soul...Will immersed himself in a uber positive embrace of life until the moment he closed his eyes for the final time. Life is precious. His love for Beverly, Sarah, Daniel and close friends is precious so much so that Will refused to missed one precious moment with them while it was in his power to do so. There is so much to celebrate about Will the husband, father, grandfather, healer, inventor, positive spirit, creative, whimsical, twinkler always in touch with the larger energetic field of frequency, of sound, of vibrations..........so much to celebrate and remember, so much good to emulate and model for all of us still here on this earth about how Will lived his life........Shalom! Sending love Honie Ann
