Helen Pommert Obituary

Helen Jean Pommert, 90, of Washington Court House, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2021, at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Washington Court House.

She was born on Jan. 25, 1931 in Greenfield, the daughter of Curliss and Jessie (McCord) Hope.

She was a 1949 graduate of McClain High School in Greenfield and received her bachelor's degree in education from Ohio State University in 1953. She enjoyed her career as a first-grade teacher at Columbus Elementary Schools and at Eastside Elementary in Washington Court House. Teaching was her passion and many of her former students told her how they loved having her as a teacher. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school, Phi Beta Psi Sorority and Mothers' Circle.

Family was everything to her and she cherished every family gathering. She loved singing, dancing, playing the piano, going to Broadway Theatre shows, and socializing with family and friends. One of her greatest accomplishments was writing an autobiography that included family history and many pictures that were enjoyed by many.

She will be missed by her surviving family including one son, Steve Pommert of Reston, Virginia; one daughter, Susan (Pommert) Cupp of Crestwood, Kentucky; two grandsons, Christopher (Katharine) Cupp of Shelbyville, Kentucky and Phillip (Rachel) Cupp of Eminence, Kentucky; two great-granddaughters, Addie and Emma Cupp; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edward Hope; and her husband, Dr. George H. Pommert, whom she married on Aug. 16, 1953 and who passed away on April 4, 2013.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of her family.

In memory of Helen, the family requests that you perform a random act of kindness or give a contribution to the Grace United Methodist Church or the charity of one's choice.

The Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield is serving the family.

Aunt Helen Jean will live forever in my memory as a laughing, singing, dancing force of nature. Her joyful presence brightened every visit and her great love for her brother Eddie lives as reminder of the strength of family.

(Great) Aunt Helen Jean was such a fun lady. Always smiling and joking with such a bubbly personality. We would visit often when I was young and she always had lots of stories to share with us and would tease she was no taller than we were (and we all would laugh). I have lots of happy and fond memories playing in the playhouse outside, in the loft bedroom, and swimming at the Lake house. She was always ready with a hug, smiling eyes and kind words. She will be missed very much.
