James Harold "Jim" Washburn, 79, of Leesburg, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at home.
He was born Dec. 21, 1944, in Chillicothe, Ohio, the son of Harold and Audry (Dotson) Washburn.
Jim was a 1962 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School and served in the U.S. Marines during the Dominican Republic Action in 1965 in Vietnam. He was an explorer, historian and collector. He worked closely with his parents in growing the family business, East Monroe Farm Services, and loved farming. Later in life he worked at Candlelight in Leesburg as the head of maintenance.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Koehl) Washburn, whom he married on Feb. 12, 2010; two daughters, Amy Washburn of Chillicothe and Amber Washburn Carr of Minden, Louisiana; one stepdaughter, Megan Carter Shirden of Cincinnati; one stepson, James Mathew Carter (Brynna Boone) of Hillsboro; two brothers, Terry (Ruth Anne) Washburn of Greenfield and Dennis (Ikuko) Washburn of Hanover, New Hampshire; one sister, Susan (Danny) Long of Leesburg; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Andy Washburn; and both parents.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at the Greenfield First United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Armstrong officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
