Joseph Louis Hunt, age 78, of Amelia, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 19, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late Edwin and Rita (Schultz) Hunt.
Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, spending a year of his service overseas in Vietnam. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Mary (Eddingfield) Hunt, on April 12, 1969, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Norwood, Ohio. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, hard work, and love.
Joseph retired from Cincinnati Milacron after 38 years of dedicated service as a process engineer. He was a devoted member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Amelia and a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hillsboro.
An outdoorsman at heart, Joseph found joy in hiking, fishing with his family, and making his homemade wine. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan who loved listening to their games on the porch. Above all, Joseph loved his family deeply. His greatest happiness came from the time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren, creating countless memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Hunt; six children, Edward "Eddie" (Kathryn) Hunt of Pleasureville, Kentucky, Timothy (Nicole) Hunt of Massillon, Mikey (Michele) Hunt of Mt. Orab, Mary Jo (Justin) Lucas of Columbia, Maryland, Robert "Bobby" (Catherine) Hunt of Amelia, Kimberly (James Whaley) Hunt of Portsmouth, Ohio, and 20 grandchildren; three siblings, Lorita Lansom of Cincinnati, Paula (Robert) Lindeman of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Linda (Robert) Chalfin of Lynchburg; sister-in-law, Kathy Hunt of Cincinnati and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Hunt and Donald Hunt; a nephew, Todd Chalfin and a brother-in-law, James Lansom.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1479 Locust Lake Rd., Amelia, OH 45102. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m., following visitation on Friday, October 17, at the church. Burial, with military honors presented by the Southwest Ohio VFW Memorial Team, will follow services in the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 11000 Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249.
