Robert Arthur Boris, 72 of Athens, Alabama, passed away on May 15, 2025, at the Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama. He was born the son of the late Robert Nickolas and Barbara Nora Keyford Boris of Hillsboro, Ohio.
Robert was a Hillsboro High School graduate of the class of 1971. On Aug. 10, 1973, he enlisted in the United States Army and served a four-year term. He then went to study at the Athens State University.
In 1981 he was employed at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. There, he taught Electronics Theory to both the military and civilians. He retired in 2008.
Robert enjoyed doing photography, genealogy, woodworking, gardening, and painting. In 1987-1988 he was commissioned by the United States Military for the Redstone Arsenal Chapel to paint the Four Chaplains. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Arsenal Chapel for his portrayal of this work.
He also painted Arsenal portraits of retired generals and designed the coin for the Missile Training School.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother Grant Nickolas Boris, sister Noreen Kaye Nordman, nephew Timothy Paul Boris Jr. and brother-in-law Lewis Benton Badgley.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia Beard Boris of Athens, Alabama, children Joshua Nickolas Boris of Falkville, Alabama, daughter Selena Diane (Nabrin) Harris of Athens, Alabama, Kenny Ray (Norma) Rogers of Athens, Alabama, grandchildren Joshua Nickolas Boris, Il, Alora Rose Harris, Jacob Robert James Harris, and Abrielle Virginia Harris all of Athens, Alabama, Ashton, Kayla, and Haley Rogers of Athens, Alabama. Siblings Jennifer Dianne Badgley of Newnan, Georgia, Martin Scott (Angela) Boris of New Vienna, Timothy Paul (Linda) Boris of Hillsboro, David Edwin (Judith) Boris of Hillsboro, Angelica Renee Boris of Mt. Orab, and Michael John (Rebecca) Boris of Wilmington.
Robert was a lifelong member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ and memorial donations can be made to the Hillsboro Church of Christ, 155 W. Walnut Street, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
A graveside memorial service will be held on July 12 at 3:00 pm at the Auburn Cemetery on Careytown Road, Hillsboro, Ohio.
