Susan Collins Koch, age 77, a devoted mother, grandmother, (soon to be) great grandmother, and sister, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, at Hospice of Cincinnati.
She is survived by her daughter, Alecia Lipton and son-in-law Mark Lipton; granddaughter, Mimi Sang and her husband, Marshal Sang, grandson, Michael Castanias and girlfriend, Taylor Covert, granddaughter, Beth Lipton, granddaughter, Amy Lipton, grandson, Kyle Lipton, granddaughter Michelle Hudson and her husband Nathan, and grandson Craig Lipton; sister, Sandi Collins; several dear cousins, friends and her faithful canine companion, Stuey.
Born Susan Davis Collins on Sept. 1, 1947, she was a graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she majored in education (and shopping).
She worked as a legal secretary for many years at the law office of Conrad Curren, and later retired from the business office at Southern State Community College. She spent most of her life in Greenfield but relocated to Lebanon, Ohio, in 2021 to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Susan was a frequent visitor to the downtown Lebanon merchants, making many new friends.
Called "Sasha" by her grandchildren, she was anything but an ordinary grandmother. Her spirit was a vibrant tapestry of creativity, humor, and a fiercely independent nature. She was the kind of woman who lived by her own rules and encouraged everyone around her to do the same. She has often been referred to as a confidant, co-conspirator, and, most importantly, a friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Janice Collins (Davis) and John R. "Jack" Collins; and husband, Charles J. "Chuck" Koch.
She asked for her obituary to say in lieu of flowers, please donate to one of the following three organizations that she supported: Humane Association of Warren County, 230 Cook Road, Lebanon, Ohio 45036, the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Fund, 215 Jordan Hall of Science, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556, or Hospice of Cincinnati, ℅ Bethesda Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, Ohio 45263.
She left strict instructions to not hold a funeral. Instead, there will be a party in her honor this fall after the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Collins Madeline Koch Sang.

Alecia, my deepest condolences. Susan has always been one of my favorite people. I would add resilient, loyal, and tough when she had to be to her description (she had to be to work for Conrad for so long). Very few people are lucky enough to have a mom like her.
A shining presence has left us but as the song says, there's one more star in the heavens. I think she'd like to be thought of as a star. A very well dressed, well groomed star of course.
May the wonderful memories you have be of some comfort in the difficult times.
