Anna Shields Obituary

Anna M. Shields of Norristown passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 12, 2013. Anna was born on February 18, 1934 in Conshohocken and was the daughter of Vera (Moyer) and Paul Houck. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph D. Shields and the sister of James, Pearl Strouse (Elwood), Jean Dyson (Richard), and Harvey (Charlotte) Houck. She was the loving mother of Vera Fennell (Dennis), the late Maureen Panetta (William), the late Brian (Mary), the late Carol McKernan (Joseph), Kevin (Karen) and Jodie. She was the cherished grandmother of 15, great grandmother of five, and aunt of many nieces and nephews. Anna was employed as a supervisor at Bell Telephone Co. for more than 20 years. Anna was extremely active in her grandchildren's lives and she enjoyed tennis, sports, and crossword puzzles. She was known for her crazy glasses and her famous raps. Her children say "If our mother has ever entered your life and made you laugh or smile, we ask that you please pass it on to others in your life. Her life was a party; live, laugh, love." Relatives and friends are invited to Anna's Life Celebration at St. Patrick Church, 714 DeKalb Street, Norristown, PA on Friday, November 15, 2013 from 8:30-10:45 AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 AM. To Vera, Kevin and Jodie - So sad today as we say goodbye to your Mom. But she will live on in such happy memories of our days growing up on Arch Street. We could always count on her for a smile, encouragement and a good laugh. So glad that your Mom had some happy times again at Brightview. She made friends wherever she went. That is a true gift in life and a legacy that lives on... With love and prayers...

Vera, Kevin and Jode, please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your mother. I have the greatest memories of growing up with your family and remember the fun we had like it was yesterday. I have no idea where all the years went. I now live in Florida and cannot attend the services, but, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this great time of loss.

Anna was one of the most lovely and fun loving women I have ever met. The family losses she suffered through had to be devastating to her, but she always seemed to survive them with her vivacious and fun loving spirit. She was truly a saint on earth. I will miss her dearly.
