Charles Perna Obituary

Charles M. Perna of Worcester, age 97, peacefully passed away at home on April 10, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Norristown, Pa on July 5th, 1919 to the late Salvatore and Carmela (Gambone) Perna. He was the beloved husband of Gemma (Santoro) Perna for 57 years, devoted father to Maryann Perna of Lansdale and Charles(Jamie) Perna of Harleysville and loving grandfather to Nicole and Stefanie. He was predeceased by his son Anthony, four brothers, Albert, John, Salvatore and James and two sisters, Rose Lenhart and Adeline Lauro. Charles formerly owned and operated Perna Septic Services which he began in 1945. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army, 634th AAA Battalion, 36th Infantry Division. He served in the Naples-Foggia, Italy, Anzio, Italy, Southern France, Rhineland Germany, Ardennes-Alsace France and Central Europe Campaigns. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with eight Bronze stars. Church, Holy Savior Club, 443rd AAA 36th Infantry Division Association, The American Legion, Post Number 0119 of Collegeville and Charter member of the National World War II Museum. He generously supported these organizations and numerous others, including The Disabled American Veterans Group. Charles enjoyed spending time and entertaining special occasions with his family and friends. He always looked forward to his World War II reunions in Hazleton, Pa with his fellow veterans that fought together. Charles had a wonderful smile, made people laugh and was happy all the time. He always put others first and helped anyone in need. Any person that knew him was drawn to his kind, gentle and funny nature. He was so loved and admired by all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday, April 17th from 8:30AM to 10:00AM at Visitation B.V.M.
