David Denick Obituary

David J. Denick passed away suddenly on May 31, 2012 at his home in Columbus, NJ. He was 69. David was born in Norristown, and was a graduate of Upper Merion High School. He was an active alumnus and remained close with former football teammates from Kutztown University. He received his master's degree in printmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. As an art and photography teacher for over 30 years in the Pennsbury School District, he inspired others to use art for creative expression. David was a long time resident of Eastampton, NJ where he served on the Eastampton School Board. After retiring from teaching, David and his wife Donna relocated to Columbus, NJ and Islamorada, FL. An avid fisherman, David drew inspiration from the coastal landscape and wildlife of the New Jersey shore and Florida Keys. His love for the seashore can be seen in his artwork, primarily Gyotaku fish prints and watercolors that are carried in galleries along the East Coast. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Rose Denick of Valley Forge. David is survived by his wife Donna, son Davis, daughter Dana; brother Donald and sister-in-law Mary; brother Paul and sister-in-law Sue; brother Thom and sister-in-law Carol; and sister Joy and partner John. He was "Uncle Dave" to many, a father to Gerri and Brandt, and "Poppi" to their two daughters. David will be remembered by his family and many friends for his outgoing, welcoming, and generous nature. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 121 High St. Mt. Holly, NJ at noon on Thursday, June 7th. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private. Arrangements by the Perinchief Chapels,Mount Holly,NJ. www.perinchief.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of David to the Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation, Box 338, 134 Yardley Ave., Fallsington, PA 19058; or The Wetlands Institute, 1075 Stone Harbor Blvd., Stone Harbor, NJ 08247.

2021 and I just found this obituary on Mr. Denick. He was one of my absolute favorite teachers, so all inspiring. After being in his class he encouraged me to join Art Major Class the following year. Unfortunately, I did not sign up, being pulled towards music. When he realized I didn't sign up he asked me to come into his class on my study halls or whenever possible to help out some of the younger students, which I did and was very grateful for the opportunity. I think he did it more for me than the other students. He was always encouraging, seeing the talent in you which you never realized you had. He was a true mentor for me which has affected me all of my life because he believed in me, which has stayed with me all these years like it was yesterday. Of course he had a "cool", relaxed way, with no pretense. I will never forget him. I am so sorry it took me so long to find this. I have always wondered how he was doing. After graduating I would stop in once in a while to say hi. He had a great affect on me. My deepest sympathies to his family, although it has been a long time since his death, I'm sure his presence is still missed. I will be looking for any of his works on the internet. Sincerely, Karen Spiker-Miller.

I would like to express my sincerest sympathy to you and your family on Dave's passing. I learned about it from Don Jones, with whom I visited Dave's brother, Duker yesterday. I believe the last time we crossed paths was when Dave, Duker, Tom, Don Jones and myself returned from a fishing to Montauk,N.Y. and sorted out all the fish on your front yard. Again, like so many others, I was deeply saddened to hear of Dave's passing. Sincerely yours

I learned of David's passing only today, when I stopped in the Artisans of the World shop in St. Michaels, MD., to admire his works, again, as I have been doing for several years. Today, I was determined to bring one of his pieces home, and was delighted that the large, framed Maryland rockfish was still hanging on the wall. Then I learned of his passing. My condolences to you, Donna, and your family, friends, and aquaintances. I wish I had the opportunity to meet him. I will remember him through this beautiful print, and admire his talent, always.

I just got the word on Dave;s passing which saddens me greatly. Donna, we met about 25 years ago when I came out to your house in Mt Holly. I wanted to write to you to express my sadness but to let you know what an impact Dave had on my life. Like so many he introduced me to photography but he had a big influence on my life. Much more than any other professor I had through college. And the only one I have reached out to 35 years later. Dave will remain in my memories and I wish the very best for you and the family.
