Edward Wallace Obituary

Edward W. Wallace, age 87, of Audubon passed away at home on Thursday, February 24, 2022. He was born on December 18, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY to the late James and Catharine (nee Almquist) Wallace. His wife, Maryann (nee Rosenkranz) and sons, Daniel and Edward, also preceded him in death. He is survived by five of his children, Stephen (Laurie) of Orlando, FL, Brian (June) of Newtown, PA, John (Janice) of Chesapeake, VA, Mark (Stephanie) of Lewisburg, PA, and Mary Donoghue (Aaron) of Bala Cynwyd, PA; daughter-in-law, Michelle (nee McKaig) Wallace of Phoenixville, PA. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Wallace (Carolyn) of Columbus, OH. Ed was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. As a child, Ed played football for the Pop Warner team in New York and was very involved in the Boy Scouts. Ed’s family credited him with ending the Korean War as he was sworn into the Army on the day the armistice was signed on July 27, 1953. After being honorably discharged in 1955, he met the love of his life, Maryann, whom he married on August 2, 1958 and later moved his growing family to a house in Levittown, NY. Ed then moved his family again in 1969 to Audubon, PA when he took a job working as a quality engineer for Hughes Aircraft Company, for which he continued to work for more than 30 years until his retirement. Ed could be found along any sideline, in any stadium, or sitting amongst any audience cheering on his children and grandchildren. Besides being a very involved Dad and beloved Grampa, Ed devoted all the rest of his free time helping the community. Ed served as president, board member, and volunteer for the Lower Providence Community library, founding member and president of the Lower Providence Optimist Club, served on the Audubon Recreation Association board, founded the Audubon Soccer Association, and coached football for the Audubon Hawks. He was head usher and served on the church council for Saint Teresa of Avila for many years. Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was very involved with the Notre Dame division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was a proud ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) sharing breakfast and “war” stories every Wednesday morning until his health prevented him from joining his friends. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Szpindor-Meyers Funeral Home, 101 N. Park Ave. (Rt. 363 Trooper) Eagleville, PA. A second viewing will be held from 8:45 to 9:45 am Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1260 S. Trooper Rd., Norristown, PA. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 am at the church. Interment to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Norristown, PA. In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions in Ed’s name may be made to the American Kidney Fund, the American Heart Association, the Lower Providence Community library, or any charity that is meaningful to your family.
