Albert Ernest Lehman Jr., 68, passed away peacefully at his family home in American Canyon on Sunday, Feb. 26, after a battle with cancer. Al, as his friends knew him, was born on Sept. 23, 1943, in Vallejo, to Albert Sr., and Florence Lehman.
He graduated from Vallejo Senior High School in 1961 and joined the Marine Corps in the
same year, serving honorably for three years. He was sworn in as a Vallejo Peace Officer in 1965. He transferred to the Pasadena Police Department in 1968, serving in
various capacities, including undercover investigations. He eventually returned to his hometown police department in Vallejo in 1973, holding extensive patrol, investigations, and community involvement positions before retiring in 2000 as a captain.
Al lived a very active life even after retirement, bartending part-time at the Relay Club and traveling around the country with his wife, Cecilia, their grandchildren, and many pets. As the grandchildren on these road trips can attest, if there are any historical landmarks on the way to heaven, it is going to take Gramps awhile to arrive.
Al loved sports, and lived to see his San Francisco Giants finally win a World Series title in 2010. He was also a big fan of Vallejo's NASCAR star, Jeff Gordon. Among his many interests, Al loved riding his motorcycle, adopting animals, spending time with family and talking with friends. He will be missed dearly by all those who knew him, and he will be remembered for his years of public service.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia; sister, Carol Hayman; children, Jim (Karen) McManus, Terry (Illyana) McManus, Jancy (Eric) Watts, Eric Lehman, Raina (Brent Presser) Lehman, Alison (David) Keith; adopted son, Jess Longmire; grandchildren, Jennifer Bliss, Jordyn and Camden Watts, Andy and Russell McManus, Kellen, Dylan, and Daniel McManus, Albert Lehman Jr., and Harrison Keith; with another Keith grandchild on the way.
There will be visitation from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. His funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at St. Vincent
Ferrer Catholic Church, Vallejo. There will be a reception following the service at the Moose Lodge, located at 337 Nebraska St., Vallejo.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Kaiser Hospice Program or to a charity of your choosing.

Many find memories of Al, or Captain at the time. When I transferred to VPD from Oakland PD, Al did and said all of the things to welcome me to my new department. Great man, surely missed by all who came in contact with him.

Condolances To The Family,
I graduated in 63, and like Al who graduated two years before me, went directly into the Corps, he was in his last year, and I was just starting, we shared a couple bus rides from the base to Vallejo. He's a good Marine, and now guards Heaven's Streets.
God Bless, and Semper Fi

I didn't really know Mr. Lehman on a personal level, but had a number of contacts with him while working as the police reporter for the Times-Herald in the early '90s. He was always very kind, open and approachable. I found that refreshing and very unusual, and appreciated it very much. I never forgot him. Blessings to his family.
